Happy Mother's Day!
I like how Futureshop's ad for Mother's Day include a kitchen appliance on what to buy for her. Especially that both the kitchen appliance and headphones are pink as well they are stating that all female mother's like the colour pink. My mother hates pink...so should I still buy these gifts for her?
What do you guys think about this ad for Mother's Day by future shop? Do you think many mothers would be offended by this ad?
I don't know about other mom's but my mom would not get offended. It is typical for such ads to pop up whether it is on the internet or on tv or in a magazine. We are so used to it now that it doesn't affect us. My mom also doesn't like pink but I'm sure no one would mind any of those gifts. Hey a gift is a gift but yeah if you think about it in depth this is proving the stereotype that girls love pink and they need supplies and equipment that will help them with their work at home. I wouldn't buy my mom any of those things but something she will like and that fits her personality.
ReplyDeleteI'm not to sure if my mom like pink or not, but despite that it kind of funny to see kitchen appliance on the front page. The kitchen appliance resembles how women are the housewife and this ad proves how the media thinks of women. I have to agree with Shahin on this, I don't think mother would be offended by this ad because like Shahin said a gift is a gift. My mother would be happy to receive a gift on mother day.
ReplyDeleteMy mother and I both hate pink, however I agree with Shahin's point that a gift is a gift, and it's the thought that counts. However, this ad portrays many stereotypes for women today, like Mayur mentioned above, pink seems to be the "feminine" color, and the fact that a kitchen appliance is on the front page just shows how ignorantly the society views women. Now that we're in the 21st century, I would have thought that the way women are viewed in society would not be kitchen related, but based on our success. As for your question Jamie, if Ms.Nguyen has a passion for cooking, and is constantly nagging about wanting new kitchen appliances, then sure why not. Mother's day is a day you show your mother how much you appreciate and love her. Buying her a kitchen appliance wouldn't be the best choice.
ReplyDeleteIf you think of a basic mother 'figure', you think of flowers, pink, cards, perfume, and the kitchen. That’s how the media portrays women that are mothers. Most likely they have children that they have to cook for. I think it is smart to do this because it will give them an equipment to do their job easier for them.
