Everyone (or at least I think everyone) knows the new popular
teenage British boy band, One Direction (1D). These boys were the winners from
the British show, X Factor and have now officially released two songs that hit
the billboards as number #1 for 2 weeks on going.
The reason many females and males appreciate this boy band is
because of their voices, their songs, their looks ... and their "homosexuality"
act.
Now many people find this entertaining, confusing but yet still attractive. Many fans question the sexuality of the boys, however in interviews all 5 of the boys have either concluded with themselves as currently dating a female, or defined their sexuality as straight.

Does this mean society is slowly starting to accept homosexuality?
How do you think homosexual people feel about this?
Do you think it eases off on the tense of "coming out" now that One Direction is being admired and accepted for their “homosexuality behaviour”?
Think about it ....
Now that this boy band is accepted by BOTH genders, and are a big part of media, they contribute a new "trend" to society. There are individuals who look up to these boys, and this may conclude in society continuing on their trend.
Do you think it will then be easier for men to not be questioned about their close "bromance", or like Mohamed's post questions about two straight men hugging, would that then be considered "normal"?
I just think they are really close and are able to show to the public how close they are, but in a non-sexual way. What they are doing is simple bromance. We don't see a lot of boy bands of American acting a bit sexual with each other. Maybe there producer gave them the idea to act sexual with each other to attract more attention.
ReplyDeleteREAL guy friends sometime act homo, don't know why though. Hey, but that rhyme though.
A bromance is a close non-sexual relationship between two (or more) men, a form of homosocial intimacy.

First off, thank you for referring back to me :)
ReplyDeleteI don't see what's the matter with their relationship with them. There are other people who act the same and are straight. Just because some guys are really close just means that they have a really powerful bond between each other that would be really hard to break. I hug most of my guy friends that are straight, or at least that I know of, because I like to show that they are my friend and that we usually scratch each others back when we need a back to scratch. I think that the reason why One Direction is being publicized either for more money, audience, and/or publicity.
In conclusion, those guys are just real good friends and they can act how ever they feel is comfortable.
Most of the guys I know, apparently besides for a few in this class, HATE One Direction. Not because their music is bad (personally i love them) but because they are percieved as being either homosexual, or just extremely close, sharing an apparently intimate 'bromance'.
ReplyDeleteMen are less accepting of homosexuality or anything that looks like One Direction in the first place.
In my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and views on stereotypical issues, including homosexuality. It's not my place to judge, and I don't. Everyone is entitled to the freedom to act and say what they want, these boys just express it more openly.
Overall, they seem to be happy, and that's what matters.
But no, most boys dont like One Direction, even though the views within the media are slowly changing.
Nothing can happen overnight though.
I can't really say that the society is starting to accept homosexuality. For me, One Direction is really popular. They have lots of fans and supporters, because of that no matter what they do is fine. I think that their homosexual acts towards each other is a way for them to show their closeness to each other. Their acts are being accepted by the society because they aren't known for being homosexual but if a group of homosexual people does the same thing, other people might feel disgusted.
ReplyDeleteI think that homosexual people might find their acts to be helpful but some might be offended. It is true that it encourages the homosexual people to come out because of the acceptance of the society towards the groups' act. At the same time, other homosexual people might get offended because the society doesn't feel the same way towards them.
I just started listening to One Direction and I love their music. They are really good at what they do. I have seen many of their interviews and I noticed their closeness not particularly Harry and Louis but all the guys in general. They are close and the thought of homosexuality never crossed my mind. To me it was just they are really good friends. The scenes in the video above and yes I watched the whole video, have been taken out of other videos. I think it is neccessary to watch the whole interview, or video from which this content is taken out from. I think once you see that you realize that these guys are just friends. What they share is bromance. I don't think they are gay and they have also said they are straight and some of them are dating girls. One Direction is very popular and many people look up to them. They can influence people and that is what is happening. I think they are showing the world that just because you are male and are friends with a guy and you are close doesn't mean you are gay. They are sending a message across that even guys can hug and be freindly and not be gay.
ReplyDeleteI personally like One Direction's song "What Makes You Beautiful." In that video, there were 3 beautiful girls I must say, and I didn't see nothing gay of that. In that video I didn't see any acts of homosexuality.
ReplyDeleteIn the picture you posted above, Harry and Liam, I found very homosexual. Harry is touching Liam's crotch for no apparent reason. I understand that Bromance can go to a certain degree that you can hug, and handshake your guy friend. I think touching his crutch could raise why people are saying they are homosexual.
Personally, I enjoy the music that One Direction produces. I watched about half the video and from what I saw nothing seemed "homosexual" about their behaviour. It seemed to me that they are very close, and have a strong friendship. The two band members are comfortable with each others actions and their intimate friendship which shows their level of maturity and high self-esteem. This is because as Raquel said most boys/men are scared about being referred to as a homosexual (less accepting) and hence they tend to avoid it or try to separate themselves from it. Lastly, I think because One Direction is setting a new trend and the amount of influence they have that it will help (in some way) break the stereotypes about homosexuals.
ReplyDeleteI don't think society is starting to accept homosexuality, more like people don't care or shouldn't care in that matter about what other people think about them. I said this before and I'll stay this again the only person opinion that really matter is yours.
ReplyDeleteI think that the boy band is contributing to a new trend because like they all said or stated, their straight and are dating their girlfriend. It may influence people that it doesn't matter whether your popular or not, you have the right to express your feelings the way you feel right.
Just like Abdul said, when watching the video i see no homosexuality BUT when looking at the picture it tells another story. So i agree with the fact that bromance isn't something to be ashamed of or embarrassed about, but their should be a limit to how far it can extend to.
